Verdant Impact is building the infrastructure layer for India's dairy
livestock economy. The Jaipur-based startup has developed an end-to-end
platform that addresses every critical gap in the cattle ownership
lifecycle — from sourcing and health to financing and trade — for the 80
million smallholder farmers who manage 1 to 5 cattle and have
historically relied on fragmented, informal channels.
The platform combines an indigenous bovine genetics marketplace with
IoT-driven health monitoring — using RFID implants and proprietary
muzzle-ID technology to track vitals, detect disease early, and build a
longitudinal Animal Ancestry database per animal. On-demand veterinary
care is delivered via Animal ICU, the company's telemedicine network of
1,500+ registered consultants. The platform also facilitates cattle
loans and insurance by leveraging animal-level data to de-risk
underwriting for financial institutions.
Verdant operates its own breeding farm focused on climate-resilient
indigenous breeds and runs structured training programs on sustainable
herd management. Its go-to-market combines grassroots community
engagement — through Farmer Clubs, FPOs, dairy cooperatives, and SHG
networks — with targeted digital outreach, keeping acquisition costs low
and early retention high.
